Composer and Cantorial Soloist
Judith-Kate Friedman
has collaborated with rabbis,
cantors and congregational leaders
for more than 30 years. She is honored
to support a deep spiritual experience
for body and soul with each person
and community she serves.
A life-long singer and professional performing songwriter, Judith-Kate was raised singing Yiddish art and labor songs.
She began address Jewish themes in her original music in 1990 and toured and recorded with Linda Hirschhorn’s
women’s a cappella ensemble Vocolot,
for 8 years. Judith-Kate collaborated with Rabbi Sheldon Marder for 17 years during his chaplaincy at San Francisco’s Campus for Jewish Living. Together they created and facilitated the Psalms, Songs and Stories project co-writing dozens of sacred songs with elders residents, average age 88.

In 2004, Judith-Kate become a cantorial soloist serving Congregation L’Dor V’Dor on the Campus with R. Marder. She studied with Chazzans Richard Kaplan, Linda Hirschhorn and others, began composing new settings for liturgical texts and co-leading services, especially for Chaggim (Jewish holidays) and Kabbalat Shabbat.
